About Malcolm Scoular
Decorative Artist
Malcolm lives and works in West Wiltshire, on the borders of Dorset and Somerset.
His creative life started at St Martins and The Slade School of Art in London, studying Fine Art.
On leaving The Slade, he spent several years working as a fashion photographer at Vogue Studios in Hanover Square, London.
After this he founded a company designing and building tour bus interiors for rock bands and their crews. It was an amazing journey and he built up an incredible team.
Later, with his wife’s passion for interiors they created a highly regarded interiors shop in Edinburgh’s New Town which also featured his designs for high-end bespoke kitchens and furniture.
After thirty years living in Scotland, following the death of Valerie his much loved wife, Malcolm relocated to rural Wiltshire to set up his craft business. There he rediscovered his love of special effects painting, on which he had often worked during his time in Edinburgh.
Sourcing lampshades from a local manufacturer in Dorset, he has continued to perfect his craft. Now not only creating his speciality of faux tortoiseshell, painted over a gold leaf base, but also experimenting with faux malachite and lapis lazuli effects to name but a few.
Open to both small and larger scale projects he has produced not only faux painted lampshades but his own designed obelisk lamps, decorative panels, screens, mirror frames, display trays, drinks and table mats. Recently he has been commissioned to create a faux tortoiseshell four poster bed.
